A second open meeting will be held, this time in Kington Magna Village Hall at 7.00 p.m on Monday 10th January 2022. Please come and hear what is involved and give us your views

As rural villages we are, quite rightly, proud of our position in the countryside and seek only to secure it for ourselves and future generations.

The government has now decided to overhaul the outdated planning system and has given all villages &

towns the opportunity to have control and create their own vision of how their village or town will look in the future. Without this control the government will retain powers to impose development in our villages as it might deem necessary.

For the first time the Neighbourhood Plan would give us the opportunity to shape our communities in a way that would provide an environment for young people to stay in their village and allow their families to grow but also for older people to downsize and stay in an area where they feel comfortable. This could be achieved by limited development such as conversion of redundant buildings, in-filling, affordable housing, single occupancy housing, sub-division of existing buildings or small developments if suitable, whilst also taking into consideration any environmental impact.

Whilst the Neighbourhood Plan is primarily concerned with housing, it also allows for control over the appearance and siting of any new development, ensuring that an extension, conversion or new build is in keeping with surrounding properties and its environment. The Neighbourhood Plan would also incorporate issues such as play areas, protected green spaces and employment needs.

As a Parish Council, we feel that this is a positive opportunity to secure the future of our villages.

At this meeting you will be presented with full information relating to Neighbourhood Plans and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions on the subject. In the meantime for further information please see which outlines more information and the processes involved. You may also like to view other Neighbourhood Plans such as Fontmell Magna, Milborne St. Andrew, Puddletown and Arne.

We would love to hear your views, comments and questions which you can forward to us at:

Many thanks
